Research of CD Advertisements

This James Morrison advertisement for the release of his new album uses the same image that appears on the album cover; this allows an image of the actual CD to not have to appear upon the advertisement. This image uses sepia tones and shows the artist on his own, emphasising also that he is a solo artist. The advertisement uses a relatively simple layout with limited information so that most of the focus is on the image, this is so it can also be recognised when people see it within a shop. This differs from the CD cover by adding in the release date of the album as well as showing a song that the album includes. This advertisement also puts uses small print at the bottom of the page in order to show the website and myspace for the artist. This has therefore used simple information and an extended image in order to create an advertisement for this new album.

This advertisement takes on a different approach to the one used by James Morrison and has a different image to the one that appears on the album cover, however despite this the same additional information about the album appears on the advertisement. The image used is also animated figures, which does not show the actual artist, just the imagery for the band itself. This therefore shows a different technique, as animated figures represent the artists themselves as it is using imagery through association. The artist name appears the largest on the advertisement to emphasise the band and make the audience aware of what the advertisement is for as one you see the name of the artist, the audience will look for information if they are interested in them. However, this image is also similar to that of the James Morrison advertisement in that they do not have an image of the album cover, showing that although the images are different, having the same characters within the advertisements and on the album cover will connect them.
